LAHORE: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) and the Punjab business community have strongly rejected the Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess, expressing disappointment that it has become law despite serious concerns raised by industry stakeholders.
Zaki Aijaz, Regional Chairman & VP FPCCI, stated that the new levy amounts to double taxation on Punjab-based industries, which are already burdened with high energy costs, excessive taxation, high financing costs, and regulatory challenges. He warned that the cess will increase the cost of doing business, discourage investment, reduce industrial competitiveness, and accelerate de-industrialization in Punjab. The measure is likely to negatively impact exports, employment, and economic activity across the province.
