LAHORE: Under the Digital Punjab Vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has achieved another significant milestone in public safety by launching “CM Punjab QR Panic Button System.”
The innovative system aims to make public transportation across Punjab safer, more reliable, and digitally connected with the Safe City safety network, ensuring immediate assistance and effective police response for citizens during travel.
Under this initiative, QR Panic Buttons will be installed in buses, wagons, rickshaws, taxis, and other public transport vehicles across Punjab. The Punjab Safe Cities Authority has developed this state-of-the-art system entirely in-house, eliminating any additional financial burden on the government or transport owners. Vehicle owners and drivers will be able to obtain QR Panic Button free of cost through Public Safety App or the Punjab Safe Cities Authority website.
According to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, transport safety systems around the world generally offer limited services; Punjab’s QR Panic Button System integrates 12 advanced safety features on a single platform. These features include emergency calling, video calling, live chat, live location sharing, vehicle verification, driver and owner information, family sharing, instant police response, and several other modern public safety tools.
Passengers will be able to scan QR Panic Button at the start of their journey to verify vehicle, driver, and owner’s authenticated information. To further enhance personal safety, passengers can also share QR code or trip details with their family members, allowing loved ones to remain informed about the vehicle being used for travel.
In the event of any emergency, harassment, accident, or security threat, passengers will be able to contact Emergency 15 immediately through QR Panic Button. Citizens can report incidents and seek assistance via voice call, video call, or live chat.
The system will automatically transmit passenger’s live location and vehicle information to the Safe City Control Room. Using its advanced Command and Control System and citywide surveillance cameras, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority will monitor situation in real time and dispatch the nearest police unit for immediate assistance.
The facility is not limited to passengers alone. Public transport drivers will also be able to use the QR Panic Button to seek immediate help in case of robbery, disputes, emergencies, or any other threatening situation while on duty.
The QR Panic Button System has been linked with vehicle registration records to ensure transparency and accuracy. In case of a change in vehicle ownership, previously issued QR Panic Button will automatically become inactive. A new QR Panic Button will be issued only after updated ownership and driver information has been verified and entered into the system.
On this occasion, Inspector General Punjab Police Abdul Karim stated that the protection of life and property of citizens remains foremost priority of Punjab Police. He said that the QR Panic Button will serve as an effective communication bridge between citizens and law enforcement agencies. He further remarked that ensuring safe and reliable public transportation is among Punjab Police’s top priorities, and this innovative system will play a vital role in protecting women, senior citizens, students, and millions of daily commuters. He added that the integration of technology and smart policing is setting a new benchmark for public safety across Punjab.
Managing Director Punjab Safe Cities Authority Ahsan Younas stated that the Authority is effectively utilizing advanced surveillance systems, smart technologies, and rapid response mechanisms to enhance public safety. He added that public transport across Punjab is being transformed into a comprehensive digital safety network to ensure timely assistance, safer travel, and prompt police response for every citizen.
According to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, CM Punjab QR Panic Button System represents another significant step towards transforming a Safe Punjab into an Even Safer Punjab. Through the effective use of modern technology, the initiative will further strengthen citizen safety, confidence, and convenience across the province.
