NTP 2025-30: Tariffs for various sectors to be gradually cut, PM told
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was told on Thursday that under the National Tariff Policy 2025-30, tariffs for various sectors will be gradually reduced, aimed at achieving export-led economic growth targets.
In a briefing to the prime minister on the implementation of the National Tariff Policy 2025-30, chaired by the prime minister, officials said duties on reefer containers and semi-trailers will be abolished to promote and develop the logistics sector.
They said customs duties on specialised vehicles and machinery are being reduced to support the construction sector.

They added that, to facilitate the pharmaceutical sector, customs duties on raw materials – particularly those used in cancer medicines – will be removed.
Speaking at the meeting, the prime minister said achieving export-led development targets remains the government’s top priority.
He said the active and transparent functioning of the National Tariff Commission is essential for promoting industry, trade and investment.
“The National Tariff Commission should play an active role to facilitate investors and industrialists,” he added.
The prime minister stressed that innovation should be introduced in the commission by adopting global best practices and modern technology, including information technology and artificial intelligence.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Climate Change Musaddik Malik, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Petroleum Minister Ali Parvez Malik, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kiani, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar and other senior government officials.
