ISLAMABAD: In a move widely seen as an attempt to heighten political pressure during the federal budget session, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi, on Wednesday announced that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would stage a “large sit-in protest” outside the Parliament House on June 10.
With the federal government scheduled to present the 2026-27 budget on the same day, the chief minister described the demonstration as a protest against what he termed an “anti-poor, IMF-dictated, and pro-rich” budget.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Muzzammil Aslam, the adviser to the chief minister on finance, Afridi sharply criticised the federal government’s “flawed economic policies” and alleged “step-motherly treatment” of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He stated that the protest would oppose the federal budget for 2026-27 and demand fair treatment for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, emphasising that the province’s rightful share of resources must be guaranteed.
The chief minister also confirmed that he had filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC), seeking judicial intervention to facilitate a meeting with the party founder.
