ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has projected the country’s wheat production for the 2025-26 season at 27.48 million tons, from an area of 8.84 million hectares.

According to SUPARCO estimates, the national average yield is estimated at 3,108 kilograms per hectare.

As per the estimated production of wheat in Punjab province, 20.15 million tons from 6.09 million hectares, Sindh, 4.93 million tons from 1.65 million hectares, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 1.31 million tons from 703,100 hectares, and Balochistan, 1.07 million tons from an area of 397,800 hectares.

The Federal Committee on Agriculture (FCA) meeting held in October 2025 had set a wheat production target of 29.678 million tons for the Rabi season 2025-26 from 9.648 million hectares of land.

However, the Federal Committee on Agriculture (FCA) meeting held on April 14, 2026, was informed that the country is likely to produce 29.31 million tons of wheat during the 2025–26 Rabi season from an area of 9.385 million hectares.

The meeting was further told that out of the total projected wheat output of 29.31 million tons, Punjab is likely to produce 22.040 million tons, Sindh 4.402 million tons, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1.411 million tons, and Balochistan 1.450 million tons.

Meanwhile, the 12th meeting of the National Wheat Oversight Committee to review the current wheat procurement status, carry-forward stocks, demand, and supply situation was informed that sufficient wheat stocks are currently available in national reserves, and ongoing procurement targets are expected to further strengthen the buffer stock position in the coming weeks.

It was also noted that coordinated efforts between federal and provincial authorities are ensuring stability in wheat availability and price management.
