ISLAMABAD: Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) continued to enforce strict security measures for the seventh consecutive day in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, in connection with anticipated Iran–United States talks, keeping the Red Zone sealed and key transport services suspended.
The administration has reopened roads to ease public inconvenience; major routes — including those around Nur Khan Airbase and within the extended Red Zone, such as Jinnah Avenue — remained closed. Government offices in the Red Zone have shifted to remote work, and educational institutions in the area have continued online classes.
Entry into the Red Zone is restricted, with access granted only to individuals holding special cards. A strong security presence, including personnel from the Army, Rangers, Frontier Corps, and Islamabad Police, is witnessed in the red zone and other parts of the city.
In Rawalpindi, areas surrounding the old airport have remained largely shut down over the past week, with streets, markets, banks, and link roads closed. Public transport services, including the Metro Bus between Rawalpindi and Islamabad and electric bus routes, have been suspended. Goods transportation has also been halted since April 19 as part of the security plan.
The capital police have intensified security measures by launching combing and search operations in the different parts of the city, following directives issued by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Islamabad.
These operations were conducted in the jurisdictions of Loi Bher, Shalimar, Aabpara, Bhara Kahu, Humak, Golra, Shams Colony, and Kirpa police stations. The search operations were carried out under the supervision of zonal superintendents of police (SPs), with active participation of female police personnel as well. During the operations, police checked 684 individuals and 226 households. Additionally, 40 hotels and 80 shops were inspected. Police also examined 266 motorcycles and 101 vehicles.
As a result of the operations, 37 suspects, including one Afghan national, were taken into custody for further investigation. One vehicle and 25 motorcycles were also seized for verification purposes.
Police further reported the arrest of a suspect found in possession of illegal weapons, with arms and ammunition recovered.
