KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review progress on major development projects in Karachi, directing officials to ensure timely completion to ease traffic congestion and improve urban infrastructure.

Senior officials, including the Additional Chief Secretary Local Government and representatives of EA Consultants, attended the meeting, where progress on ongoing schemes, key challenges and future planning were discussed in detail.

Seven major development projects were reviewed, with authorities agreeing on a coordinated strategy to accelerate work and meet deadlines.

The minister stressed that all projects must be completed within stipulated timeframe to provide relief to citizens. “The completion of these projects will significantly improve traffic flow in Karachi, saving both time and fuel for commuters,” Shah said, adding that strict adherence to quality and transparency would be ensured in line with international standards.

Discussions also focused on the construction of flyovers and underpasses across busy corridors, with plans to expand such infrastructure to provide a long-term solution to the city’s chronic traffic issues.

Shah said the expertise of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) was being fully utilised in the execution of mega projects, describing the role of the armed forces in Karachi’s development as commendable. He emphasised the importance of coordination among utility agencies and closer engagement with federal institutions to resolve bottlenecks. Issues involving federal entities would be taken up with the Sindh Chief Minister to ensure swift resolution.

The meeting also decided that encroachments obstructing development work would be removed immediately to prevent delays.

Officials and experts said timely completion of the projects would significantly enhance Karachi’s infrastructure and contribute to smoother, more efficient urban mobility.
