KARACHI: Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Friday distributed rickshaws among unemployed and low-income residents in Karachi’s Lyari area, in a move aimed at generating livelihoods and supporting economic stability.

The initiative, launched under the direction of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, seeks to provide dignified employment opportunities to youth and financially vulnerable families.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shah handed over ownership documents and keys to beneficiaries under the rickshaw scheme, saying the programme was designed to empower individuals through self-employment.

“This scheme is a new ray of hope for unemployed people and will help dozens of families achieve financial support,” he said, adding that practical measures for economic stability would continue.

The Minister said the Sindh government was working in line with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision of ensuring “respectable livelihoods for all,” and added that development efforts in Lyari would be pursued without compromise.

He said the distribution process was carried out on merit and with transparency, with support from local stakeholders including community representatives.

PPP Chairman’s Political Secretary, Junaid Jedi, along with party leaders Yousuf Baloch and Usman Hingoro, attended the event, which was also witnessed by a large number of local residents.

Shah said the programme reflected the Pakistan Peoples Party’s commitment to public service and poverty alleviation, describing the party as a true representative of the underprivileged.

Residents of Lyari termed the initiative “historic” and expressed gratitude to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for focusing on employed generation and welfare in the area.

The Sindh government has stepped up targeted welfare programmes in recent months, particularly in underserved neighbourhoods, as part of broader efforts to reduce poverty and promote inclusive economic growth.
