ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Ishaq Dar confirmed on Thursday that US-Iran ‘indirect talks’ are taking place through messages being relayed by Pakistan.

“In this context, the United States has shared 15 points, which are being deliberated upon by Iran,” Ishaq Dar said while responding to queries and speculation in a message posted on his X handle. There has been unnecessary speculation in the media regarding the peace talks to end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, he said, adding that in reality, no direct negotiations are taking place.

The capital of Pakistan has been in grip of intense rumours and speculations that it is hosting direct talks between the two warring parties, Iran and the United States, to end the weeks-long conflict in the Middle East in the wake of strikes carried out by the US-Israel forces on the Islamic Republic. “Brotherly countries of Turkiye and Egypt, among others, are also extending their support to this initiative,” Ishaq Dar further stated.

He reiterated that Pakistan remains fully committed to promoting peace and continues to make every effort to ensure stability in the region and beyond.

“Dialogue and Diplomacy is the only way forward,” Ishaq Dar remarked. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s tweet clearly articulated Pakistan’s role as a key mediator in the Gulf crisis. Pakistan stands ready and willing to play the role, use its influence, and even host mediatory discussions, provided the warring parties agree to such an arrangement.

Despite the detractors and naysayers, peddling fake and vested narratives, the events have now vindicated what Pakistan has claimed all along. He said that Pakistan made consistent and credible efforts to bring the conflict to an end through dialogue and diplomacy. It is worth mentioning that Pakistan was one of the first countries to condemn Israeli aggression and also condemned Iranian attacks on the Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia.
