LAHORE: More than 2.6 million people have availed iftar at Ramazan Nigehban Dastarkhwans across Punjab from the 1st to the 21st of Ramazan, according to a report issued by the food safety and consumer protection department.
Secretary Food Safety and Consumer Protection Dr Kiran Khurshid said that 423 Ramazan Nigehban Dastarkhwans have been established across the province. She stated that around 100,000 to 150,000 people break their fast at these facilities daily in a dignified environment.
According to the report, 127,121 people were served iftar at these Dastarkhwans across the province on the previous day alone. Overall, more than 2.6 million people have been provided iftar at the facilities since the beginning of Ramazan.
Dr Khurshid said the Ramazan Nigehban Dastarkhwans have been set up on a large scale for the first time in Punjab’s history with the support of philanthropists. The iftar menu at the Dastarkhwans includes chicken pulao, chicken qorma, dates, fruits, samosas, and pakoras.
She added that officials from the food safety department, food authority, and district administration are continuously monitoring the Dastarkhwans. Inspection teams are ensuring strict cleanliness and food quality standards at the facilities. Dr Khurshid said the Ramazan Nigehban Dastarkhwans represent a public-private partnership model, where iftar is being provided with proper arrangements for safety and security.
