ISLAMABAD: Authorities have ordered stricter monitoring at all entry and exit points of the federal capital, expansion of Safe City surveillance, and mandatory enforcement of M-Tags for vehicles and motorcycles as part of enhanced security measures to strengthen law and order in Islamabad.
The directives were issued during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting was attended by Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, senior CDA officials, district administration, and police officers.
Randhawa directed that a modern monitoring mechanism be developed to effectively track movement within the city and further strengthen surveillance at Islamabad’s access points. He emphasized enhanced security in the Diplomatic Enclave, Red Zone, key installations, places of worship, and other sensitive locations, stating that no compromise would be tolerated on the capital’s security.
IG Islamabad briefed the meeting on measures taken to improve crime prevention and maintain public safety. He said police patrolling has been intensified, vigilance increased, and Safe City cameras are actively monitoring major highways, commercial hubs, and residential sectors. Security arrangements at important buildings and religious sites have also been reinforced.
The meeting was informed that vehicles without M-Tags would be restricted from entering the capital, while installation of M-Tags on motorcycles is being accelerated with additional facilitation centers being established for public convenience.
Officials also briefed the meeting that data of all seminaries and religious institutions is being compiled, suspicious individuals are being closely monitored, and door-to-door surveys have been completed in urban areas, with rural surveys nearing completion.
Randhawa said that on the directions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, comprehensive measures are being implemented to ensure Islamabad remains one of the safest cities in the country.
