Inaugural meeting of Board of Peace: PTI slams govt for its participation

ISLAMABAD: The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday sharply criticised the government for participating in the inaugural meeting of the “controversial” Board of Peace without consulting the parliament.

In a statement, the party condemned what it called a “myopic” decision by the government, arguing that attending the meeting disregards the long-term consequences for both the Palestinian people and the broader Muslim world.

PTI emphasized that Israel’s policy of ethnic cleansing against Palestinians must be confronted urgently.

The statement further warned that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s unilateral decision to engage in the Board of Peace would risk Pakistan’s dignity, undermine its independent foreign policy, and erode its longstanding position of supporting oppressed peoples globally.

The party urged Sharif to immediately brief both the nation and Parliament, asserting that any policy on Palestine should reflect the will of the people.

It also condemned any external efforts to disarm Hamas, asserting that such actions would be unacceptable to the Pakistani public.

PTI also raised alarm over the international community’s failure to act, which has allowed Israel’s unchecked expansion in the West Bank and its ongoing military campaigns against Palestinians in Gaza.

The statement highlighted Israel’s ongoing attempts to annex Palestinian territories, calling them a “direct threat to regional stability” and a clear violation of international law.

PTI called on the government to reconsider its stance and align its foreign policy with the principles of justice, human rights, and global accountability.

“Decisions of such international significance must be grounded in constitutional procedure, democratic oversight, and national consensus,” the statement read.
