ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Thursday confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the upcoming Board of Peace (BoP) meeting scheduled for February 15 in the United States.

“I can confirm that the Prime Minister will attend the upcoming BoP meeting,” said Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi. He added that the Prime Minister will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar.

He further stated that the composition of the Pakistani delegation accompanying the PM has yet to be finalised. The details regarding other members of the delegation and its engagements with the US government during the visit will be shared with the media in due course.

Responding to a question, the spokesperson said that Pakistan has joined the BoP in good faith. He stated that Pakistan has not joined the BOP in an isolation. “We will not participate as one voice. Our participation will be a collective voice of eight Islamic-Arab countries,” he argued.

Andrabi further said the eight Islamic countries, which are part of the BoP, jointly issued important statements– not just on Gaza, but also on West Bank. “Our collective voice is resonating in the BoP,” he added. He said Pakistan along with other Islamic-Arab countries will continue to strive for the rights, peace and prosperity of the people of Palestine.

He said the efforts of the eight Islamic countries are aimed at the long-term solution of the Palestine issue – to create a state of Palestine, in accordance with the pre-1967 border with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital. “Our engagement is both for short term, medium term and long-term solution of the plight of the Palestinian people,” he added.
