ISLAMABAD: Turkmenistan top diplomat in Islamabad said that Ashgabat’s foreign policy orientation is rooted in the principles of permanent neutrality, peace, and regional cooperation.

Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Atadjan Movlamov made these remarks during a meeting with the Pakistan–Turkmenistan Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) here on Wednesday.

The PFG delegation was led by MNA Sanjay Perwani and included MNAs Fatehullah Khan, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Nazir Ahmed Bhugio, Arshad Abdullah Vohra, Dr Darshan, and Naima Kanwal.

The Ambassador delivered a detailed presentation on Turkmenistan’s political system, constitutional framework, and parliamentary structure. He said that Turkmenistan’s foreign policy orientation is rooted in the principles of permanent neutrality, peace and regional cooperation. He also highlighted Turkmenistan’s developmental priorities, economic outlook and engagement in multilateral forums aimed at promoting dialogue, trust, and stability.

The Ambassador mentioned the vast potential of tourism, highlighting Turkmenistan’s special breed of horses and its expansive landscapes.

The discussion covered the current state of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, with particular focus on strengthening inter-parliamentary engagements through the respective Parliamentary Friendship Groups. Opportunities for enhancing trade, connectivity, transport linkages and broader economic cooperation were also discussed in a forward-looking and constructive manner.

Members appreciated the comprehensive briefing and acknowledged Turkmenistan’s efforts toward regional cooperation and sustainable development. They emphasised the importance of regular dialogue, exchange of parliamentary delegations and continued people-to-people interaction to further consolidate the longstanding bonds of friendship between the two countries.

The Convener reiterated that Parliamentary Friendship Groups serve as an effective institutional mechanism to promote understanding, coordination and cooperation between legislatures. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan–Turkmenistan relations and agreed to maintain close contact for future engagements.
