LAHORE: The Punjab government will hold a Ramazan Bachat Festival at Jillani Park from February 13 to February 15, 2026, to provide the public with quality and affordable food items while ensuring relief and recreation at one location.

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Salma Butt, disclosed this on Tuesday, stating that all subordinate departments of the food safety and consumer protection department will participate in the Ramazan Bachat Festival.

These include the Punjab Agriculture Marketing Regulatory Authority, Punjab Food Authority, Food Directorate, Halal Authority, Sahulat Bazar Authority, Sahulat on Wheels, Consumer Protection Department, and Punjab Institute of Agriculture Marketing.

Salma Butt said more than 60 relief stalls will be set up for the public where essential items including flour, ghee, pulses, sugar, rice, fruits, vegetables, and other food items will be available at discounts of more than 20 percent. She added special arrangements are being made to ensure food safety and quality at all stalls.

She further said that along with food stalls, local culture, traditions, and regional colours will be showcased through various activities. A safe, pleasant, and public-friendly environment, particularly for families, will be ensured throughout the festival, she added. Meanwhile, ahead of Ramadan, the Punjab Food Safety and Consumer Protection Department has also launched a province-wide crackdown against illegal profiteers and hoarders, said Secretary Food Safety and Consumer Protection Dr Kiran Khurshid.

According to Dr Kiran Khurshid, price control magistrates conducted raids at more than 363,000 locations across Punjab over the past three days. As a result, action was taken against over 21,000 individuals involved in overcharging essential commodities. A total of 38 cases were registered, 437 profiteers were arrested, and fines exceeding Rs109.02 million were imposed.
