KARACHI: The city administration has made key decisions to control the prices of food items during the month of Ramadan and ensure availability at the controlled rates; complaint centres will be set up in major 13 markets of the city.
A meeting chaired by Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi reviewed the plan to control the prices of food items.
It was decided that prices will be strictly monitored, and all food commodities will be made available at affordable prices.
The administration will strictly supervise the auction system of fruits and ensure reasonable prices are fixed there.
Deputy Commissioners will check the prices daily and ensure the availability of food items at official rates.
The Commissioner directed officials to play an active role in the execution of this Ramadan plan.
The administration will also monitor the supply of quality goods in Bachat Bazaars and Assistant Commissioners will supervise them.
The meeting reviewed the ongoing campaign against violators of official prices.
Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed briefed the meeting on the action taken against them.
According to the details from January 1 to January 31, over Rs 79,00000 was fined on 1265 violators while Assistant Commissioners and Tehsildars checked the prices at 6,445 locations, 93 shops were sealed.
