SCF concludes training programme on Climate-Smart Livestock Management

HYDERABAD: Sindh Community Foundation (SCF) has successfully concluded a four-day training program on Climate-Smart Livestock Management for Income Generation, aimed at strengthening the livelihoods of rural women farmers in climate-affected areas of District Sanghar.

A total of 50 women farmers from eight villages participated in the training, which was organized with the support of the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) under its Asia Gender Equality Fund – Round 2. The initiative focused on equipping women with practical skills to improve livestock productivity, protect animal health, and enhance household incomes amid growing climate challenges.

The training covered key topics including livestock care, housing and disease prevention, nutrition and fodder management, vaccination and hygiene practices, small-scale livestock-based income generation models, and the impacts of climate and changing weather patterns on livestock health and productivity. The technical sessions were facilitated by Veterinary Doctor Ramchand, who provided hands-on guidance on preventive health care and improved livestock management practices.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Javed Hussain, Executive Director of Sindh Community Foundation, said that climate change is severely affecting livestock, which remains the main source of livelihood for thousands of rural families in Sindh. He noted that heat stress, water shortages, and increasing disease risks are placing serious pressure on women farmers and emphasized that climate-smart livestock management is essential to build resilience and create sustainable economic opportunities.
