FAISALABAD: Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) has announced that it will hold high-level meetings with relevant federal and provincial ministries on a priority basis to address the critical challenges faced by the knitwear sector, with the aim of enhancing national exports and steering the industry out of the prevailing crisis.

This was stated by Ahmed Afzal Awan, Senior Vice Chairman, PHMA (North Zone), while speaking at a luncheon hosted in honour of PHMA members. He said that immediate meetings would be arranged with concerned ministers, secretaries, and senior government officials to seek urgent and practical solutions to the sector’s pressing issues.Awan said the objective of the meeting was to bring all stakeholders on a single platform, benefit from the guidance of senior industrialists and formulate a joint strategy comprising workable recommendations to provide relief to the industry and significantly boost exports. He highlighted that the knitwear and value-added textile sector is facing an unprecedented crisis due to soaring energy costs, excessive taxation, delays in refunds and inconsistent policies, which pose serious threats to the survival of the industry. He stressed that the gravity of the situation demands immediate and serious government intervention.

PHMA members present at the meeting, including Group Leader Ch. Salamat Ali, Dr. Khurram Tariq, Mian Kashif Zia, Mian Naeem Ahmed, Syed Zia Alamdar, Shahid Ahmed Sheikh and other senior and executive members reaffirmed their collective commitment to resolving the sector’s issues.

The members assured that those having close liaison with federal and provincial authorities would use their contacts to invite concerned officials to the PHMA office for direct dialogue, aimed at facilitating prompt and effective decision-making.

The participants emphasized that through coordinated efforts between the government and the industry; the knitwear sector can be revived, leading to growth in exports, employment generation and overall economic stability.
