LAHORE: (At the annual HungerCON event powered by USSEC’s Right to Protein initiative, Dr Kausar Abdulla Malik was honoured as the HungerCON 2025 Champion. This award recognises pioneers leading food and security efforts across the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.
Dr Malik’s visionary leadership and dedication to leveraging biotechnology and science have helped strengthen Pakistan’s food and nutrition security. His work in developing GM heat-resistant, herbicide-resistant, and climate-resistant crops has been instrumental to Pakistan’s agriculture, a nation home to 252.4 million people, said an announcement issued by the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) here on Thursday.
During his term as the Federal Minister for the Ministry of National Food Security & Research in Pakistan’s interim government, he amended the biosecurity safety rules, which paved the way for importing GM soybeans - a vital feed ingredient for the country’s poultry industry.
