KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Labour, Human Resources and Social Protection, Saeed Ghani, on Thursday, said that the Pakistan Peoples Party has a 58-year-long history of political struggle that no other party can rival.

He noted that while the party had reservations over certain points of 27th Amendment, the federal government deserved appreciation for addressing their concerns. The PPP would comment on the 28th Amendment only once it is formally presented, and any objections would also be placed before the government.

Speaking to the media on Thursday after attending a ceremony at the Arts Council, Saeed Ghani categorically said that Pakistan should not expect anything positive from India.

“They can produce ten thousand films against Pakistan, but none of them compares to the humiliation they suffered on 9 May,” he remarked.

He recalled that before the creation of the PPP, politics was dominated by capitalists and feudal lords, whereas the party’s formation enabled ordinary citizens to enter the political arena. “

Just two years after its formation, the PPP contested general elections and the common people emerged victorious,” he said, adding that PPP workers endured floggings and even executions during the party’s struggle.

He announced that the PPP would celebrate its 58th Foundation Day on 30th November with great enthusiasm through district-level public gatherings across the country. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will address these gatherings via video link. In Karachi, a major rally under the PPP Karachi Division will be held at Korangi.

Responding to a question on constitutional amendments, Ghani reiterated that although the PPP had objections regarding the 27th Amendment, the federal government had addressed them.

He emphasised that future amendments would also be reviewed, and the party would present its stance accordingly. “It must be understood that any constitutional amendment requires a two-thirds majority, which is impossible without PPP’s support.”

On the issue of the Sindh Governor’s appointment, Ghani said he was part of both committees formed for government formation by the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. Initially, the PPP had demanded the governorships of Sindh and Punjab, and a decision had nearly been finalised in this regard. However, the PML-N leadership later requested that the PPP allow them to appoint the Governor of Sindh, offering PPP the governorship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in exchange.

Bilawal Bhutto had agreed, allowing PML-N to appoint the Sindh Governor. “If this understanding is not honoured, then the Governor in Sindh will be from the PPP,” he said.

Responding to another question, Ghani said Pakistan should not expect India to portray it positively, especially regarding a reported feature film on Lyari.
