British HC team discusses tax reforms with PRA chairman

LAHORE: A delegation from the British High Commission called on Chairman Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) Moazzam Iqbal Sipra to discuss provincial economic development and ongoing reforms in the tax collection system in the province.

Both the sides reviewed the challenges in simplifying and making sales tax laws more practical in Punjab. They also discussed proposals to enhance tax collection, strengthen enforcement and improve inter-provincial coordination. The three-member British High Commission delegation appreciated PRA’s reform agenda.

They shared recommendations for a joint working plan on laws related to banking, insurance, telecommunications, IT and other major sectors. The Chairman PRA informed the visiting British High Commission delegation that laws concerning the non-deposit of tax collected from consumers into the government treasury will be made more strict.

He added that a joint working platform comprising technical experts and PRA officers can help accelerate tax collection reforms. Moazzam Sipra further said that the IT-based reforms are being implemented to improve field intelligence, strengthen monitoring and increase transparency in the tax system.
