KARACHI: Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment at Work-place Fauzia Viqar on Thursday asserted on ensuring equal rights to all the citizens -men, women, and transgender persons in all spheres of life for an enlightened and progressive nation.
"Constitution of Pakistan ensures equality of all citizens, men, women, and transgender persons so that no individual should face indignity or discrimination in any form," she said whole speaking as the Guest of Honour at an awareness seminar organized by Pakistan Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management here.
She regretted that harassment not only violates the law but damages human dignity. It is our collective responsibility to create safer workplaces where everyone can contribute without fear, bias, or discrimination.
She pleased that empowering women to work freely and safely can significantly contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth. Ensuring women’s active participation in different sectors can increase the country’s overall earnings by up to 30 per cent.
She also emphasized that workplace harassment extends beyond sexual misconduct to include all forms of discrimination and biased treatment, calling for equal access to education, employment, and leadership opportunities.
Sabika Shah, Regional Head of FOSPAH Karachi, also gave a detailed presentation on the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act- 2010.
She elaborated on the definition of harassment, the process of filing complaints, and the importance of knowing one’s rights and institutional procedures to ensure accountability within workplaces and organizations.
Niaz Ali Malkani, Director PITHM, presented mementoes to Fauzia Viqar in recognition of her dedicated efforts toward promoting gender equality and a respectful, safe working environment for all.
