ISLAMABAD: The government has banned two more organisations, taking the total number of proscribed outfits in the country to 81.

Official sources said that following the approval of the Ministry of Interior, the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has added Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group and Majeed Brigade, for their involvement in terrorism. Both organisations were under observation for two years before being banned, they said.

According to the NACTA’s proscribed organisations list, Majeed Brigade was included in the list on July 18 and Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group on July 25.

The list is updated as of July 25, 2024, and prepared by NACTA based on the notifications issued by the Ministry of Interior.

As per the list, the name of Zainbiyoun Brigade was included in the proscribed organisations list on March 29, 2024.

Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), Sipah-i-Muhammad Pakistan (SMP), Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM), Laskar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), Sipah-i -Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), and others are on the top of the list issued by NACTA.

Four organisations including Ghulaman-e-Sahaba (GS), Sachal Sarmast Welfare Trust, Karachi, Maymar Trust and Al-Jaza Patient Welfare Society Karachi have been placed on the watch list by the Ministry of Interior u/s 11-D-(1) r/w Schedule-II, ATA 1997. The government under Section 11-B of Anti-Terrorism Act can declare an organisation believed to be concerned with terrorism as a proscribed organisation or put it under surveillance.

The Ministry of Interior issues the formal notification of the proscription of an organisation.
