ISLAMABAD: The United States has expressed the desire to broaden cooperation with Pakistan in the information technology sector, noting the country’s immense potential for growth in the digital economy.

This was conveyed by US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome during a meeting with Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja, here on Wednesday.

In a statement, the US Mission Spokesperson Jonathan Lalley stated that Ambassador Blome met with Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja.

“Ambassador Blome conveyed the United States desire to broaden cooperation in the information technology sector, noting Pakistan’s immense potential for growth in the digital economy, and the leading role of US firms in bringing investment and innovation to the sector,” the spokesperson added.

This is good news. One of the main factors holding the IT sector and e-commerce back is the lack of an international payment system like PayPal. Maybe Mr. Blome can help Pakistan in this regard.
