Published October 14, 2020

Apple announced its four-model iPhone 12 in its launch yesterday. This is the first major revamp of iPhone’s design since iPhone X in 2017. This year Apple brings new colors, models and 5G wireless support across the lineup.

iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will be Apple’s mainstream flagship iPhones for 2020. These 6.1 inch and 5.4 inch iPhones will have identical features and will come at an affordable price. They will be sold alongside the more expensive iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

iPhone 12 is a successor to the iPhone 11, while iPhone 12 mini will be the smallest iPhone ever introduced since the 2016 iPhone SE. Both of these iPhones will feature a faster 5G cellular network, with those sold in the US also including the ultra-fast millimeter wave version. This means better quality video streaming, improved gaming, and higher-definition 1080p FaceTime calls.

These two iPhone 12 will also incorporate the new Super Retina XDR OLED display, boasting 460 ppi pixel density and Dolby Vision HDR support. It will also have a new Ceramic Shield protection layer on the screen. The 2020 lineup will also feature Apple’s latest A14 chip to improve AI processing. Moreover, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will have an improved camera with an f2.4 ultrawide camera and f1.6 wide. Night Mode available on all cameras.

These two models will have an aluminum frame with new antennas all around the device to connect to the 5G networks. They will come in white, black, green, blue and red colours.

iPhone 12 starts at $799 in the US, £799 in the UK and AU$1,349 in Australia. Whereas, the smaller, thinner and lighter iPhone 12 mini starts at $699 in the US, £699 in the UK and AU$1,199 in Australia.

iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max

Both iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone Pro Max will have premium features such as three cameras, lidar for depth mapping, AR and low-light autofocus. iPhone 2 Pro will feature a new telephoto lens with an optical zoom of 2.5X, whereas the Pro Max will have a 5X optical zoom. This is a big step up from the 2X optical zoom in older iPhone models.

These premium models will come with stainless steel bands and four finishes: gold, silver, graphic, and Pacific blue. iPhone 12 Pro will have a 6.1-inch display, while the Pro Max will feature a 6.7-inch screen.

iPhone Pro starts at $999 in the US, £999 in the UK and AU$1,699 in Australia, while iPhone Pro Max starts at $1,099 in the US, £1,099 in the UK and AU$1,849 in Australia.

What will you get in the iPhone 12 box?

The iPhone 12 box will not have a power adapter and EarPods and they would need to be purchased separately. However, the 2020 iPhone 12 will support Apple's revamped MagSafe charger and each iPhone 12 box will have a Lightning to USB-C connector.

When can you get your iPhone 12?

The 2020 iPhone models will be launched in the US, UK, Australia, Japan, Germany, CHina and more than 30 other countries and regions starting on October 16. You can pre-order your iPhone 12 on Friday at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
