UK wheat crop seen at 10.13mn T, down 37.5pc

LONDON: The United Kingdom's wheat harvest this year is provisionally forecast at 10.13 million tonnes, down 37.5pc from the previous season, Britain's farming ministry said on Monday.
The ministry estimated the barley crop at 8.36 million tonnes, up 3.9pc.
Further details, including yield and area data, will be published on Thursday along with estimates for other cereal and oilseed crops, the ministry added.
A sharp drop in wheat production had been expected after a wet autumn forced many farmers to switch to spring-planted crops such as barley while yields had been expected to be below normal after a dry spring.
The International Grains Council, in its latest report issued in late September, put the UK wheat crop at 10 million tonnes.
