ISLAMABAD: In an announcement yesterday from the U.S Consulate in Islamabad, Pakistan and the United States have initiated a bilateral partnership under the Hague Abduction Convention, in an effort to uphold a “shared commitment to protecting children in cases of international parental child abduction”.

The Convention will establish an internationally recognized framework to resolve cases of child abduction between the two countries. In a statement from the U.S Consulate, it was elaborated that “Pakistan will now be able to use the Hague Convention as a vital tool to deter international abduction and secure the return of abducted children between the United States and Pakistan”.

Furthermore, the statement read “preventing and resolving cases of international parental child abduction is one of the State Department’s highest priorities and we look forward to working with Pakistan as a new partner in this global effort”.
