Under fire TikTok releases Community Guidelines in Urdu
- The development comes after last month Pakistan has issued a final warning to Chinese-owned social media app to clamp down on what it called "immoral, obscene and vulgar" content on the video-sharing platform.
Video sharing platform, TikTok has upgraded its Community Guidelines alongside releasing the Urdu version of these guidelines as well.
“Our Community Guidelines reflect our values and define a common code of conduct on our platform. These guidelines also allow our community to help maintain a safe shared space,” said TikTok in its latest update.
“Offering a safe and supportive environment is our top priority. We believe that feeling safe is essential to helping people feel comfortable with expressing themselves openly and creatively. We also aim to cultivate an environment for authentic interactions by keeping deceptive content and accounts off our platform,” the app said.
The development comes after last month Pakistan has issued a final warning to Chinese-owned social media app to clamp down on what it called "immoral, obscene and vulgar" content on the video-sharing platform.
TikTok has become a global sensation with its 15 to 60-second video clips and is hugely popular among young Pakistanis, with some users building up millions of followers. But the app has faced a backlash in Pakistan, with critics blaming it for spreading nudity and pornography.
Meanwhile, TikTok said that they remove content including video, audio, image, and text that violates the Community Guidelines, and suspend or ban accounts involved in severe or repeated violations. The company added that under certain circumstances, they will go one step further and report the accounts to relevant legal authorities to keep its community safe.
“We also recognize that some content that would normally be removed per our guidelines could have value to the public. Therefore, we may allow exceptions under certain circumstances,” it added.
