Immediate preventive measures needs to save masses from viral diseases: NDMA spokesman

ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) spokesman Irshad Bhatti has said that there is a need to adopt immediate preventive measures to save people of Sindh and Punjab from viral diseases.

Talking to BBC Radio, he said uptill now nearly 2.3 million persons have been affected by several diseases partly due to floods and dengue epidemic particularly.

He said that over fifty thousand cattle have died and their dead bodies are still floating over the flood water and as water is not still receding, therefore, it is totally polluting the environment and diseases are spreading with bad smell.

The NDMA spokesman said that fifty four more people died yesterday and in this way total deaths have reached to three hundred. According to fresh details the number of affected people is over fifty-eight hundred and half thousand.

He said that at the moment hundreds of thousand of people are suffering from various diseases such as malaria, cholera and skin diseases. He said many people have suffered due to snake bites. The situation in Sindh is more worst due to floods.

Replying to a question, he said that there is not epidemic like situation but the situation has reached to the brink of spread of epidemics which needs immediate measures to have control over it.
