ISLAMABAD: Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Haji Ghulam Ali said on Wednesday that business community has played its role in achieving exports of $25 billion against the government target of $20 billion despite economic challenges.

"The business community helped the government in achieving exports worth $25 billion during the financial year 2010-11 against the target of $20 billion", he said during his visit to Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GCCI) along with a delegation of the federation.

The FPCCI president said that by recognizing the efforts of the business community in developing the national economy, the government should resolve the problems being faced by the community.

Senator Haji Ghulam Ali assured the government of the full support of federation in furthering the national economy for the socio-economic development of the country and welfare of its people.

He said that Gujranwala, the fifth biggest city of the country needs due attention of the government for its development especially the industrial sector so that it could contribute in boosting the exports of the country besides creating job opportunities for the people.

He urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to simplify the e-filing for sales tax return to facilitate the business community in the payment of their due taxes.

He appealed the government to amend trade organization act 2007 what he claimed was an anti industrial act for the welfare of the business community.

He also appealed the business community to actively participate in flood relief fund established by the FPCCI for the relief of the people affected by recent floods in Sindh province.
