According to English media reports Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio has donated $3 million to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) via his charitable foundation.
The Golden Globe winner donated the whopping amount to help the organization to protect and nurture tigers in Nepal.
The 39-year-old actor, who is a member of WWF, hopes the grant will help enforce anti-poaching activities and restore habitats for the tigers to breed.
"Time is running out for the world’s remaining 3,200 tigers, largely the result of habitat destruction and escalating illegal poaching," the ‘Titanic’ said in a statement.
"WWF, the government of Nepal and local communities are on the front lines of this battle, and I am hopeful this grant will help them exceed the goal of doubling the number of these noble creatures in the wild."
DiCaprio’s foundation has also previously helped to increase the tiger population in Nepal's Terai Bardia National Park from 18 to 50.
"His foundation is all about delivering real results for conservation on the ground and empowering local communities; nowhere is that more evident than in Nepal," President of the WWF, Carter Roberts was quoted as saying.
