Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has said that she is not afraid of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and "fake cases" that have been registered against her.

Speaking to media following the Avenfield case hearing on Wednesday, the PML- N leader said that she is not afraid of going back to jail, adding that her bail should be cancelled and NAB should arrest her so that the world would know "how scared NAB is of the truth".

Her statements come a day after NAB approached the Islamabad High Court seeking the cancellation of Maryam and her husband Captain (retd) Safdar's bails in the Avenfield reference case.

In its petition, NAB said that Maryam and her husband misused the bail concession.

It added that Maryam delivered "hate speeches" against NAB and the suspects' conduct caused pressure on the witnesses seeking to testify against them.

On October 5, Maryam moved the IHC against her conviction by an accountability court in the Avenfield Apartment case.

In a petition filed through her lawyer, Maryam sought annulment of the verdict in the Avenfield Apartment reference, saying that the decision is a "clear mockery and travesty of justice".

The petition also mentions Accountability Judge Arshad Malik whose video had gone viral in which he claimed that he had been “pressured and blackmailed” to convict Nawaz Sharif.

Maryam argued that the evidence of influencing the outcome of accountability references against her and her father have been made evident by the viral video.

In 2018, accountability court judge Mohammad Bashir convicted Nawaz, Maryam and her husband in the Avenfield Apartment reference.

The judge handed them jail terms of 10, seven and one years, respectively, for owning assets beyond known sources of income.
