karachi-mapKARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed to have killed a local leader of a banned outfit allegedly involved in the murder of prominent social worker Parveen Rehman in Orangi Town on Wednesday.

UN award winner Parveen Rehman‚ 56‚ a known social worker and head of her independent organization – the Orangi Pilot Project – was shot dead by unidentified gunmen riding motorcycles.

Qari Bilal was killed during a police encounter in Manghopir area on Thursday, DIG West Javed Odho told the reporters.

He claimed that the alleged terrorist was a local commander of Sher Khan Mehsood group, and might have been involved in the murder of Parveen Rehman.

Meanwhile, a case into Parveen Rehman’s murder was also registered in Pirabad Police Station. The Pirabad police lodged the FIR on the complaint of her driver‚ Wali Dad‚ against unknown assailants.

"She was on her way back home when armed motorcyclists intercepted her car and shot her dead‚" Javed Odho said.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayer of Parveen Rehman was held at her residence in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Her funeral was attended by individuals belonging to all walks of life.

She was laid to rest at the Mohammad Shah graveyard.
