TAIPEI:  Taiwan's central bank said Saturday it had lodged a protest with an international conference for changing its membership name because of China's participation.

The central bank said it was forced to use the title "Central Bank, Chinese Taipei" at the Conference of Governors of South East Asian Central Banks last month after the People's Bank of China joined the organisation.

"We deeply regret and protest this arrangement," the bank said in a statement.
