Use of mobile phone during duty banned in all Jails

Unfolding the detail of ban, Regional Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Lahore Region, Mubashar Ahmad Khan told APP here on Friday that Prisons Chief, Punjab, Mian Farooq Nazeer, has clamped complete ban on use of mobile phone during duty and he had directed all range DIGs and Superintendents Jails to ensure strict compliance of ban in their respective jurisdiction.

 

He said that nearly 52000 inmates including under trail and convicts are confined in all 32 jails throughout the province and for effective security in and around the prisons, a modern network of jammers is also being installed under a phased programme.

 

He said during his surprise visit to Central Jail, Lahore today, one of the warder Inayat during his duty after seeing him threw away his mobile and Rs 400 in dust bin which was recovered and placed under suspension besides issuing show cause notice to Assistant Superintendent Jail concerned for his failure to detect the cell which could also be used by the inmates conveniently.

 

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Central Jail, Sahiwal, Gulzar Ahmad Butt today also recovered three mobile phone from prisoners and confined them for one month in "Chakki" a cell meant for vigorous punishment.

 

The Superintendent Camp Jail Ejaz Asghar alongwith a team in a week long surprise crackdown recovered 34 cell phones with accessories from secret body parts of prisoners while seven were retrieved after detection through screening and x-rays machines.

 

Superintendent along with Deputy Superintendent Jail Abdur Razzaq Niazi and Assistant Superintendent Jail Zaheer Ahmad conducted a series of surprise crackdowns in different barracks and recovered mobile phones.

 

The guilty under trial prisoners were removed from barracks and were confined to a special cell (Chakki) forthwith for a period of one month, as a punishment for keeping cell phones illegally and barred from meeting with their relatives during confinement in cell.
