Election, best means of change: Gill

03 Jan, 2013

Talking to APP here on Thursday, he said that some elements wanted "change" in the country through protests or long marches, "But they forgot that Pakistan is a democratic country and the people don't like any other system in the country".

Gill said "best change" could be brought through election and its the right of the people to elect their leaders through the power of vote.

He said the PPP leadership including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed sacrificed their lives for democracy, adding that the PPP workers and the nation would never allow anyone to derail democracy as its the best system to run a country.

He urged all political and religious parties to play their role for prosperity of the country, adding that parties should not let down each other. All parties must focus on serving the nation.

He said that politics of reconciliation is in "favour of the country" and President Asif Ali Zardari has adopted this path for the betterment of the nation.

Gill said the PPP has been serving the nation despite all difficulties and limited resources, adding the PPP-led government has provided relief to people in every budget and raised salaries of employees.

He expressed with confidence that PPP would win the next elections on the basis of its performance and thus form the next government not only in the centre but in all provinces as well, including Punjab.
