Supreme Court disposes off 565 cases in one week

The backlog in the Apex Court on December 8, 2012 was 20780 cases. As 368 new cases were instituted during the period from December 8 to 14, 2012, the progressive total of pending cases as on December 14, 2012 was recorded 21,148 cases. Out of these, 565 cases were disposed off during the period from December 10 to 14, 2012 which include 280 Civil Petitions, 42 Civil Appeals, 108 Criminal Petitions, 30 Criminal Appeals and 105 other cases, the backlog on December 14, 2012 remained 20,551 cases.

 

According to the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal Seat, Islamabad and Branch Registries to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog.

 

The Chief Justice and the Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog.
