Kalabagh Dam controversial and counter-productive project

Addressing a press conference here in Hyderabad on Saturday along with provincial office bearers of Sindh Peoples Youth Organization he said that provincial assemblies of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan had already rejected this contentious dam through unanimous resolutions and it is clear that three provinces have strong reservations on this project.

 

He emphasized that nothing could be superior than federation and national solidarity and campaigners of Kalabagh Dam must respect will of people and elected assemblies of these three federating units.

 

Referring to inaugural speech of Sayad Yusuf Raza Gilani to present National Assembly, he said that, there provinces have no agreement over the issue, and government of Peoples Party is working on other projects to overcome the of energy crisis.

 

Nationalist and other opposition parties are politicizing the issue for their petty interests, Ajiz Dhamra said.

 

He said that now Muslim League (F) also has changed its policy and opposing Kalabagh Dam. It is a good omen and we welcome it because we think that it will strengthen our cause, he added.

 

Referring to Local Government Ordinance, he said that Pakistan Peoples Party believes in policy of reconciliation and negotiations and President Asif Ali Zardari has recently reiterated that our doors are open for talks and also constituted a committee in this regard.

 

He said that opposition should adopt a democratic attitude and wait for the election, as people are the right judge. Peoples Party is committed to hold free, fair and transparent elections and setting up an impartial election is timely decision in right direction.
