European feeds Rapemeal trades higher on oil mill problems

23 Nov, 2012

* German oil mill Prokon Bio-Ölwerk in Magdeburg declared force majeure on Thursday on some rapeseed meal delivery contracts to customers after damage to crushing machinery cut output at its plant. The plant is only producing at about 50 percent of its 400,000 tonne a year annual rapeseed meal capacity which could continue until late January.

* "Players were searching replacements for the material which was not going to be delivered and could be as much as about 30,000 tonnes," one broker said

* Feb/April EU rapemeal changed hands at 285 and 286 euros per tonne fob lower Rhine, which is well above the levels of around 279 euros offered on Wednesday.

* South American soymeal was offered little changed from Thursday due to lack of direction from Chicago markets, which were closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving Day holiday. Both sides of the market continued to show little interest and no deals were seen.
