Sindh govt to bear Rs600 million on wheat subsidy

It was decided at a meeting held with Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah in the chair regarding Sindh Wheat Policy for the year of 2012-2013 here on Monday evening.

 

The meeting was informed that Sindh Food department procured 1.290 million metric tons of wheat during last year.

 

The releases of wheat to flour mills commenced in September 2012, and currently there is balance stock position of wheat in the godowns is 1.090 million metric tones, the Secretary Food said.

 

He said that for disposal of Rs. 1.090 million Metric Tons of wheat, physical and fiscal space be made available for the next procurement, as wheat stocks may get damaged due to prolonged storage period, which include exorbitant storage and incidental charges.

 

Addressing the meeting the CM Sindh said that President Asif Ali Zardari has desired that more wheat be procured and wheat be provided for people on subsidized price.

 

He said that present elected government intends to provide relief to people and also to cultivators so that the achievements in food productions be continued in the larger interest of nation and province.

 

The meeting was attended by Sindh Food Minister Mir Nadir Ali Magsi, Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Enam Memon, Secretary Food Sindh Aftab Ahmed Memon, officers of food other departments.
