KARACHI: With a few days left for the Eid- ul-Azha, sale of refrigerators and deep freezers has reached its peak in the city.

While visiting electronics market it revealed that outlets were buzzing with customers buying home appliances as per their taste and attitude.

However, the shopkeepers said that the sale is not as high as they anticipated because of high prices of sacrificial animal.

‘Our sale has increased a little bit during the last few days and the sale will go up further in coming days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha’, an electronic dealer said.

He described the period as one of the important seasons of a year as a large number of people buys new fridge and refrigerators.

Refrigerators are no more within the purchasing power of the middle-class people.

The dealers said that the sale of refrigerators and deepfreezers in these days was around 80 percent of the total sale in the year, because people bought these items in order to preserve meat of sacrificed animals.

They claimed that the amount they earn every year before Eidul Azha was equivalent to 50 percent of their whole year’s sale. From 5th of Zil Haj to the night of 9th Zil Haj, the sale of deep freezers remains frenzied and we keep our shops open even after midnight, they said.

The shopkeepers claimed that Chinese and Taiwan-made products were in demand this time owing to low prices, but they would not be able to grab substantial market share, as there was no warranty and after sale service for such products. People prefer locally-manufactured refrigerators and deep freezers.
