Govt agreed to write letter to Swiss authorities after its reservations were duly addressed: Kaira

12 Oct, 2012

"The letter was finalized as per court's direction and the issue is now over", he said while talking to a private television channel Friday.

The President, he said enjoyed immunity from prosecution under the Constitution of Pakistan and international laws, hence the trial could not be held against him.

Kaira said that the federal government's stance over writing the letter in the tenure of Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani was also correct.

He said the attack on Malala Yousufzai had drawn a line between extremist and progressive thoughts in the society. He criticized those political leaders, who were supporting the extremists for their vested interests.

Kaira said that the leaders and workers of the PPP and the Awami National Party (ANP) had rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the war against terrorism.

"It is unfortunate that leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) just condemned the incident and did not speak a word against Taliban."

The entire nation is united to fight against this mindset. The federal Cabinet in its meeting also fully condemned the attack on Malala, he said.
