Call to ban on over 3 years old vehicles' import

He viewed that it would damage the domestic automobile and autopart industry, which is already facing difficulties owing to electricity shortage, inefficient transport system and expensive bank credit and high dollar and inflation rate. Auto sector, he said has investment of billions of rupees with thousands of employees.

 

Malik, in his capacity as former President FPCCI & LCCI, requested the government to take the stakeholder, chambers & federation into confidence, while deciding anything in this regard.

 

He said that Pakistan's neighbours developed their auto industry by imposing complete ban on import of automobiles, adding that some vested interests want to spend precious foreign exchange on importing junk in the country, where unemployment and price hike are among the major problems.

 

Malik, who is also Vice President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce &Industry, also urged the government to help the Automobile & Autopart Industry to develop Research and Development, update its house engineering facilities and standardization, facilitate exports and give the companies awards on developing new techniques, increasing production or generating employment.
