05 Sep, 2012

The first section of the project i.e from Thokar Niaz Baig to Scheme Morr has already been completed while from Scheme Morr to Chouburji road will be completed by end of current fiscal year, said Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly.

While talking to this scribe on Wednesday, Rana Mashhood said the project's completion would ensure uninterrupted vehicular traffic in the city. "PML-N government is committed to provide modern transport facilities to people and for this purpose roads are very important".

Multan Road widening project was initiated about three years back but it could not be completed within the stipulated period as the government had to divert development funds to flood hit areas.

However, he said, this huge amount has been earmarked in the budget 2012-13 and the project will be finished by the end of current fiscal.

To a question, Mashhood said in case of demolition of shops for road widening purpose the affectees would be compensated fairly.
