Pakistani mangoes enjoy a prominent position in international market

According to a private news channal, mango is one of the tropical fruits which has experienced tremendous development in recent years.

 

Mango is considered as the fruit of excellence and thus has a prominent position among the commercial fruits grown in Pakistan.

 

The king of fruits is grown in Punjab and Sindh provinces of Pakistan, are available in abundance from May to September.

 

The most popular commercial varieties - all different in colors and sizes, and each with a distinct flavor and taste - include Anwar Retol, Dusehri, Langra, Chaunsa, Sindhri, Saharni, Alphonso, Pairi, Fazli and Neelam.

 

Ripe fruits are mainly eaten fresh, but are also used in preparing squash,jam, other preserves and sometimes canned. Young mangoes are used in making mango chutneys and pickles.

 

Pakistan is the 5th largest producer and the 3rd largest exporter of mango in the world. Its soil and climatic conditions enable production and market supplies of good quality fresh mango over a period of about 5 to 6 months.

 

Mangoes contain sugar, an important source of vitamin A, and contain vitamins B and C. Small amounts of protein, iron, calcium and phosphorus are also present.
