The ministry's data showed that the volume included 1.3 million tonnes of wheat, 1.1 million tonnes of maize and 551,000 tonnes of barley.

Ukraine exported 1.78 million tonnes of grain in August and 1.21 million tonnes in July.

The former Soviet republic sold abroad 709,800 tonnes of wheat, 55,900 tonnes of maize and 1.1 million tonnes of barley in July-August 2011.

The ministry said an additional 530,000 tonnes of grain, including 276,000 tonnes of barley and 180,200 tonnes of milling wheat, would be exported in the nearest future.

Ukraine plans to harvest 45 million tonnes of grain this year against a record 56.7 million tonnes in 2011. The government has said poor weather during sowing and planting was the main reason for the decrease in output.
