KARACHI: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, the third and final instalment in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy with Christian Bale, is set to seize the weekend Box Office.

Fans’ anticipations and praise worldwide have set up the blockbuster as possibly the biggest releases of this year.

According to predictions, the film may generate as much as $200 million in its opening weekend, to become the second biggest US debut of all time after ‘The Avengers’. The film could earn up to half a billion at the box office during its run, earning the studio behind its release a total of over a billion dollars.

The second film in Nolan’s trilogy ‘The Dark Knight’ broke opening records and earned a total of around $1 billion worldwide while the first installment in this franchise ‘Batman Begins’ raked in a total of $373 million.

’The Dark Knight Rises’ was expected to knock the top of the Box Office prior to ‘The Avengers’ record-breaking Box Office opening with $207.4 million earlier this year.

The film stars Christian Bale as the caped crusader, Tom Hardy as Gotham’s reckoning Bane, Anne Hathaway as the Catwoman, and veteran actors Michael Caine and Gary Oldman reprising their roles of Alfred and Gordon respectively. The story picks up with Batman eight years after The Dark Knight as he prepares to face-off perhaps his biggest rival and Gotham’s Wreckoning, Bane.

The most-anticipated action thriller of the year opens across theatres today.
