Romanian IMF deal still stands, politics separate: IMF

12 Jul, 2012

"We have a standby agreement. It's still in operation. The government has not implied otherwise, so it stands," IMF Deputy Managing Director Nemat Shafik told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Vienna.

"I think the politics will be separate from that. We're focused on the economic programme."

Romania signed a 5 billion euro ($6.12 billion) precautionary funding deal with the IMF last year. Although Bucharest does not expect to use the credit line, it is seen as a stabilising factor in the recession-hit Balkan economy.
