KARACHI: Mehdi Hassan, the melodious voice behind “Patta patta boota boota” and “Jab koi pyar se bulaye ga” died last month following multiple organ failure. Now his protege Talat Aziz will be paying tribute to the legend in his next album releasing later next month.

“I am releasing an album in August sometime which is a tribute to my guru Mehdi Hassan. I have recorded eight of his favourite tracks. We will have a concert and tribute to Mehdi Hassan and release the album,” said Aziz.

Aziz learned music from Mehdi Hassan on many occasions during his tour to India and abroad and also shared the stage with the music maestro.

Aziz said, “There are lots of memories about him, for 33 years I was with him. It is not easy to encapsulate it in one go.”

Different celebrities have paid tribute to the irreverent Mehdi Hassan including Abida Parveen, Hariharan, Shreya Goshal and Anupam Kher.

“The voice that kept ghazals alive is now gone. And the void left behind can never again be filled.”
