Prime Minister Imran Khan visited on Thursday COMSTECH headquarters in Islamabad.

During his visit the PM was briefed on medical equipment and products being manufactured in Pakistan by Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with Pakistan Engineering Council.

Addressing the gathering, the PM said the nation was suffering from dependency syndrome previously but it is time to change that now. He said at a time when there is a global demand for ventilators, Pakistan has started making its own ventilators now. He said he now realises that it was not so hard. "We are a nuclear power, nothing should be impossible for us," he said.

He continued that coronavirus has made it necessary for Pakistan to build its medical infrastructure. He added that the country's ruling elite and those in power used to travel abroad on taxpayers’ money to even get their tests done and now they have no other option but to seek treatment in their country.

"We have to improve our hospitals and spend money on them and improve our medical infrastructure," the PM said.

Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry also addressed the gathering and said that today, the country is producing its own sanitisers and disinfectants and are in the position to export them.
